What I think about when I think about editing

A couple of weeks ago, I vented about how much of a struggle I find it to edit. I don’t want to be held accountable for my writing in the same way that I don’t want to be held accountwable for perceived negative behaviours. For much of the time I evade this by being quite nice but I’m sure some would disagree.

What I have identified is that in order to avoid editing, I will turn my hand to literally anything else. Time is a precious commodity. I know I’m lucky that I get more free time than most owing to my work situation, my lack of identified dependents and my ability to evade plans with friends in favour of writing.
While “editing”, I have covered a new Leuchtturm1917 notebook in stickers, broken my Dymo, written an article for local press and emailed a local bookshop to see if they want to “collab” on a “brand deal”. I’m being facetious. I just asked if they would have me in next May to hawk my wares. Stay tuned on that point.

Time is constantly getting away from me and there’s always something else pressing. Nevertheless, he procrastinated.

Even this, knowing that I like to blog once a week has been pushed to the forefront by a desire not to edit. The difficult part of editing has been taken out of the equation by finding a brilliant editor. Still, I’m struggling to sit with her edits and ensure some consistency through this thing. I really want to write something new but I refuse to do so until this is off my desk. The only person who can make that happen is me.
